Looking Under the French Veils

I wouldn't do that! It would be disrespectful!!!

"Fewer than 2,000 women in France wear a version of the full veil, and many of them are French women who have converted to Islam.... many women who wear the veil insist that they are doing it as a free choice and see a ban as a restriction of their liberty"

So it ISN'T EVEN the MUSLIM HORDES BANGING on the GATES?

Sacre bleu!!!!

"Sarkozy seeks ban on full veils; Would make wearing burqa unlawful in public" by Steven Erlanger, New York Times | April 22, 2010

PARIS — President Nicolas Sarkozy of France told his Cabinet yesterday that he would put forward a bill in May to ban the wearing of the full veil in public places in France, despite a warning from senior legal authorities that the bill may be unconstitutional.

Hey, he's the government; what interest would they have in constitutions and laws? Nothing like wasting the taxpayer's time and money persecuting someone.

Sarkozy wants a bill that goes farther than initial proposals, including a ban on wearing the full veil — the niqab, which leaves only the eyes uncovered, and the burqa, which is almost unknown in France — from streets, markets, and shops, according to his spokesman, Luc Chatel.

Yup, there go the French again!!!

See: Making a Mountain Out of a Molehill in Muslim France

Pretty soon they will have a whole range built over the non-issue.

The full veilhurts the dignity of women and is unacceptable in French society,’’ Chatel quoted Sarkozy as telling the Cabinet.

Have to LOVE that WESTERN INTOLERANCE!!

And NEVER MIND that NATO MILITARY HARDWARE that is sending them on the express train to Allah. We call that liberation in these here parts.

The idea of a ban is popular with the French and with his own political party, while Sarkozy’s own standing in the opinion polls has rarely been lower.

Oh, I SEE!

Sarkozy needed a POLITICAL PATSY for a WHIPPING so WHY NOT choose the MUSLIM WOMEN?!

After all, they are USED TO IT, right?

Not helping, is it, Nico?

Yeah, the FRENCH RECOGNIZE a FRAUD when they see it!!

And what is worst of all the alleged "leftist environmentalists" are JUST AS RACIST as the French xenophobes of the right.

An earlier proposal from a panel of the National Assembly suggested a bill banning the full veil in public places belonging to the state, like schools and public buildings, and in areas where facial recognition is vital for security reasons: airports, banks, and even public transport.

It always comes back to the New World Order, doesn't it?

Sarkozy’s push for broader restrictions was seen as a challenge to the Council of State, France’s top administrative authority....

The council said it would be clearer legally to simply issue an order that women would have to uncover their faces for identity checks as required. A law had to be based on the protection of public order, the council said, not on the grounds of personal dignity....

The prime minister, François Fillon, said, “We’re ready to take the legal risks because we think the game is worth the candle.’’

I find analogies like that offensive.

Fewer than 2,000 women in France wear a version of the full veil, and many of them are French women who have converted to Islam. The full veil is seen here as a sign of a more fundamentalist Islam, known as Salafism, which the government is trying to undercut.

Well, never let it be said the French do not fool themselves.

On the left, the veil is seen as repressive and a violation of women’s rights, even though many women who wear the veil insist that they are doing it as a free choice and see a ban as a restriction of their liberty.

Well, I HAVE LOST ALL RESPECT for the LEFT anywhere!!!

And ever notice that GOVERNMENTS always try to STAMP OUT LIBERTY?

In 2004, France banned the wearing of head scarves in public schools, but at the same time banned all signs of religious affiliation, so the law did not legally at least single out Muslims, as a ban on the full veil would seem to do.

And NO PHOTOGRAPH of the THREE LOVELY LADIES in my PRINTED PAPER?!!

Caption: President Nicolas Sarkozy's government wants to ban women from wearing full face veils such as the niqab (second from top) or the burqa

The first photograph is of a woman in a head scarf. You know the others.

I would have chosen bachelorette number two above.

Maybe they should be wearing the gowns and veil, huh?

It's not about "security" at all, is it?

"French driver fined for wearing veil" by Associated Press | April 24, 2010

NANTES, France — A woman wearing an Islamic face veil while driving was fined by French police for not having a clear field of vision. The fine was small, but it garnered big attention yesterday and may illustrate what is to come as the president pushes to outlaw the veils nationwide.

This is so fucking outrageous it is hard to know where to begin.

Traffic police in the western city of Nantes fined the 31-year-old woman $29 in early April, her lawyer said. The fine was based on a rule that says drivers should have freedom of movement and a sufficient field of vision, lawyer Jean-Michel Pollono said. Pollono said he is protesting the decision, saying a veil is no different from a motorcycle helmet in terms of hindrance to vision.

The driver spoke yesterday — while wearing the niqab, which covers the entire face except for the eyes — and expressed “a feeling of injustice.’’

Is that what I was feeling in my rage above?

“I didn’t commit any infraction,’’ said the driver, who declined to give her name. “I see just as well as you. . . . I have driven like this for nine years. I’ve not had any problems.’’

Well, NOW you do!

The driver is French by nationality.

Well, yeah, you would KNOW THAT from what was reported above! They are FRENCH WOMEN who have CONVERTED, not immigrants!!

The lawyer said she had never been stopped until now, after months of parliamentary discussion and government talk about possibly banning the veils.

But governments do not push agendas or anything; they are simply working for the public.

"Noriega soon to face charges in France" by New York Times | April 27, 2010

Related: Saying No to Noriega

MEXICO CITY — Two decades after US troops invaded Panama and arrested Manuel Noriega, the country’s dictator, Noriega left federal prison in Miami yesterday and was extradited to France.

So he will never talk about working for the CIA.

After the State Department authorized his extradition, Noriega was put on an Air France flight for Paris, said one of his lawyers, John May. Noriega had lost a court battle seeking to be returned to Panama after completing a federal prison term. In 1999, he was convicted in France in absentia of laundering more than $3 million in drug profits by buying luxury apartments there. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison. France has agreed to hold a new trial.

Of course, whose payroll he was on remains unmentioned by the MSM.

Noriega was also convicted in Panama of ordering the murder of political opponents, as well as embezzlement and corruption. Despite the more serious charges there, Noriega, who is in his 70s, fought to return to Panama. Elderly prisoners there are permitted to serve prison terms at home. Convicted in federal court in Miami of turning Panama into a transshipment point for Colombian traffickers smuggling cocaine to the United States, Noriega was sentenced to 30 years in 1992.

In federal prison, he was a model prisoner. With time off for good behavior and other credits, he was scheduled to be released in September 2007. He remained in prison, though, as he fought extradition to France.

It is what we call AmeriKan Justice!

Just wondering when George Bush the First is going to face charges for the murder of 3,000 Panamanians because Noriega stopped taking CIA orders.

"In France, Noriega back behind bars; He is charged with laundering cocaine profits" by Pierre-Antoine Souchard, Associated Press | April 28, 2010

PARIS — Former Panamanian dictator Manuel Noriega, fresh out of a Miami prison where he spent two decades, was sent back behind bars in France yesterday to await a new legal battle — this time on charges he laundered cocaine profits by buying luxury apartments in Paris.

Hours after Noriega arrived in Paris following his extradition from the United States, a judge deemed him a flight risk and dispatched him to La Sante, a grim brick prison in southern Paris. Famous past La Sante inmates include convicted terrorist Carlos the Jackal and Nazi collaborator Maurice Papon.

Come on! A 72-year-old guy that people would recognize.

Noriega lost his first battle on French territory — he unsuccessfully pressed a judge to send him home to Panama. If convicted in France, he could face 10 more years in prison, a daunting prospect for the 72-year-old.

Yes, the FORCES that he could FINK ON want him to DIE in PRISON -- and take his secrets with him!

Noriega’s French lawyers said they will appeal the decision putting him behind bars and say his detention and transfer are unlawful. If Noriega had been released in France, even to house arrest, it would have been a victory after a generation in prison. It could also have been an awkward situation for France, where a string of former dictators from Haiti to Africa have settled or bought second homes in the past.

Why would it be awkward when France is used to hosting war criminals?

Just would LOOK AWKWARD, huh?

Officials are to set a trial date on May 12 for Noriega, who was deposed after a 1989 US invasion and imprisoned in Florida for drug trafficking.

We sure like doing that to people, don't we?

After finishing his US sentence, he was extradited from Miami and sent on a direct flight to Paris, where he was immediately served with an arrest warrant yesterday. France has convicted Noriega and his wife in absentia of laundering about $7 million in cocaine profits through three major French banks and using drug cash to invest in three posh Paris apartments.

So when are the banks up for charges?

But France agreed to give him a new trial if he was extradited. Noriega’s wife, Felicidad Sieiro de Noriega, is in Panama and faces no charges there.

Why should she?

Guilt by association?
