Globe Drops the Ball on World Cup Coverage

Fell about as fast as a
WTC tower, if you know what I mean.

"World Cup: When the refs blow it

Various refereeing blunders have marred an otherwise stellar tournament....

Waaaaaah! Waaaaah! Waaaaahhhhh!

And when applied to the MSM and 9/11, Iraq, or anything else, what happened, huh? Aren't they supposed to be the referee between you and your government, Americans?

England was robbed....

Bad officiating almost cost the United States....

And why leave Mexico out of the mix?

They got jobbed yesterday.

The solution is... to institute limited replay....

As in the NFL, the original on-field call should hold — unless video presents “incontrovertible visual evidence’’ of a mistake.

Of course, the collapse of those towers was more than a "mistake."

"A delicate balance by the G-20

THE WEEKEND’S G-20 economic summit outside Toronto shaped up as a World Cup match pitting deficit cutters against proponents of continued fiscal stimulus. Canada and Germany led the debt-reduction ranks. President Obama spoke for the need to continue stimulative government spending....

Be it Israel or anything else, the U.S. increasingly finds itself alone.

Sort of like an empire losing its holdings.

The American team at the World Cup may bowed out earlier than one would hope, but the one at the G-20 had the winning game plan.

And what would that be?

More global government that has failed miserably?

"G-20 leaders agree to halve budget deficits" by Sewell Chan and Jackie Calmes, New York Times | June 28, 2010

TORONTO — Leaders of the world’s biggest economies agreed yesterday on a timetable for cutting deficits and halting the growth of their public debt, though they also acknowledged the need to move carefully so that reductions in spending did not set back the fragile global recovery.

The action at the Group of 20 summit meeting signaled the determination of many of the wealthiest countries, after enacting spending programs to counter the worldwide financial crisis, to now emphasize debt reduction. And it underscored the conviction of European nations in particular that deficits represent the biggest threat to their economic stability....

The United States, however, joined other countries at the summit meeting, which was met by protests and several hundred arrests....

To assuage objections from the United States, Japan, India, and some other countries, the timetable was couched as an expectation, rather than a firm deadline....

In essence, the leaders were blessing their decision to go their own ways....

The leaders also discussed banking regulations, but could not agree on a proposal for a global bank tax, supported by the United States, Britain, and the European Union, but opposed by Canada and Australia.

But they all agree on a carbon tax for you, readers!!!

Meanwhile, the Associated Press reported that police raided a university building and rounded up more protesters yesterday in an effort to quell further violence near the global economic summit site a day after black-clad youths rampaged through the city.

Police said they have arrested more than 600 demonstrators, many of whom were taken to a temporary holding center constructed for the summit.

"Gubernatorial candidate killed in Mexico" by ASSOCIATED PRESS | June 29, 2010

MEXICO CITY — Gunmen assassinated the front-running candidate for governor of a Mexican border state yesterday in what President Felipe Calderón called an attempt by drug gangs to sway local and state elections this weekend....

“Today has proven that organized crime is a permanent threat and that we should close ranks to confront it....,’’ Calderón said in a televised speech. “We cannot and should not permit crime to impose its will or its perverse rules.’’

Unless it is Israel, of course.

He warned that organized crime “wants to interfere in the decisions of citizens and in electoral processes.’’

We call it politics up here.

The attack was the biggest setback yet for Sunday’s elections in 12 states. Corruption scandals, threats, and attacks on politicians have raised fears for months that Mexico’s powerful drug cartels are buying off candidates they support and intimidating those they oppose....

Sort of like a Mossad death squad operating in Dubai?
