Occupation Iraq: "Al-CIA-Duh" Escapes From Iraqi Prison

Just after we handed it over to them!

"Four detainees slip out of Iraq prison; US turned over control of the facility last week" by Qassim Abdul-Zahra and Tarek El-Tablawy, Associated Press | July 23, 2010

BAGHDAD — Four Al Qaeda-linked detainees have escaped from a Baghdad-area prison that was handed over by the United States to Iraqi authorities a week ago, Iraq’s justice minister said yesterday — a daring escape that embarrasses a government struggling to prove it is capable of operating without US oversight....

The escape is the second to come to light in Iraq in about a week, and spotlights concerns about how prepared Iraqi authorities are to take full control of the country as US combat forces are to be sharply scaled back by next month.

Why do I get the feeling we are not leaving?

The July 15 handover by US forces of the prison that once held Saddam Hussein and other senior members of his regime marked a milestone for Iraq’s push to regain full sovereignty. It offered a new measure of pride in a nation where bombings and assassinations are still common and the formation of a new government has been stymied by politicians jostling for power since a March 7 parliamentary election....

Two Iraqi intelligence officials and a third in the Interior Ministry who are knowledgeable about the case said authorities believe the four men — whom they identified as Al Qaeda members — were aided by the prison official in charge of their block.

The intelligence officials said the four were discovered missing Tuesday during an evening roll call. When prison staff went to inform the unit head, they found that he, too, was missing. He has not reported for work since, the officials said.

The intelligence officials said one of the escaped inmates is believed to be a senior member of the group, and had the title of finance minister of the Islamic State of Iraq, an Al Qaeda front group....

So which "Al-CIA-Duh" would that be, huh?

The made-up "Al-CIA-Duh?"

Or the "Al-CIA-Duh" CREATION for the COURTROOM!?

Oh, AmeriKa's MSM KNOWS ALL ABOUT and yet STILL PUSHES the CHARADE, huh?

The US continues to hold 200 detainees at the request of the Iraqi government. They are kept in a separate part of the prison dubbed Compound 5.

Just before the prison’s handover, Iraqi officials announced that US forces had transferred dozens of members of Saddam’s toppled regime to their custody. Included in the list was Tariq Aziz, Iraq’s former foreign minister who became the international face of Saddam’s policies.

The intelligence officials said Iraqi authorities have removed many of the officials who headed units in the prison, fearing other escapes.

The officials said a committee has been set up to investigate the escape from the high security facility, and authorities believe that the head of the unit where the men were held may have given them Iraqi army uniforms and driven them out of the base using a special pass he had that allowed him to escort visitors in and out of the facility.

The escape is the second such incident to come to light in about a week....

"31 killed in bombing attacks on Shi’ite pilgrims, Arab news station in Iraq" by Associated Press | July 27, 2010

BAGHDAD — Two car bombs targeting Shi’ite pilgrims during a religious festival in the holy city of Karbala killed 25 people yesterday, Iraqi police and hospital officials said. Sunni extremists are suspected.

Militants detonated two parked cars filled with explosives about 2 miles apart as crowds of pilgrims passed by....

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the bombings, but the method is the hallmark of Sunni extremists.

While violence has dropped in the past years in Iraq, suspected Sunni insurgents regularly target Shi’ite religious ceremonies and holy places in an attempt to reignite sectarian tensions that brought Iraq to the brink of civil war in 2005 and 2007.

Which is odd seeing as they lived together for so long.

The Real Muqtada al-Sadr

Are we CLEAR, readers?

Held in the middle of the month preceding the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, the Shabaniyah festival marks the birth of Imam Mohammed al-Mahdi — known as the “Hidden Imam’’ — a Shi’ite saint who disappeared in the ninth century. Hundreds of thousands flock to Karbala for the celebration.

I'm just wondering why THIS was CUT from my PRINTED PARAGRAPH:

Devout Shi'ites believe the Hidden Imam will return someday to usher in peace and harmony in the world.

Yeah, you wouldn't want Americans knowing about that!

Earlier yesterday in Baghdad, a suicide bomber driving a minibus blew himself up in front of the Baghdad office of a popular Arabic news station, killing six people, police and hospital officials said.

And a channel the government does not like.

The attack at the offices of pan-Arab news channel Al-Arabiya was a reminder of the persistent dangers both Iraqi and foreign journalists face in the country.

Yeah, when Americans or Iraqis are not mowing them down or imprisoning them.

Yeah, somehow American and allied murder of press people isn't as big a deal.

Al-Arabiya is among the most popular Arabic news stations. Militants view it as pro-Western, and its journalists have been singled out for attacks in the past.

Whatever, MSM.

The bomber made it through two checkpoints, casting further doubts on the capabilities of Iraqi security forces as US combat troops prepare to pull out by the end of August.

Oh, so it was an INSIDE JOB AGAIN, huh?

The bomber was apparently waved through the two checkpoints leading to the station’s office along a narrow street after security guards checked his identification, said Iraqi military spokesman Major General Qassim al-Moussawi.

More CUT:

"This has the clear fingerprints of Al Qaeda," Moussawi told Al-Arabiya.

Why, did you find some?

No one claimed responsibility for the blast, but Moussawi said documents had been found indicating Al Qaeda was planning to target Arabic news channels and other media offices in the country.

Oh, they found some forged psy-op shit sheets! I'm convinced now!

Yeah, I knew I was smelling something.

PFFFFFFFT!!

Members of Al-Arabiya's security department were arrested, Moussawi added, without elaborating.

???????

The massive blast blew out windows in the two-story Al-Arabiya building and left much of the interior in shambles. The street outside was littered with the smoldering hulks of at least nine cars, including one that appeared to have been hurled on top of another vehicle by the force of the explosion.

And they surely must be responsible for this:

"Car bomb outside Iraqi mosque kills 15" by Associated Press | July 22, 2010

BAGHDAD — A car bomb outside a Shi’ite mosque in a village north of Baghdad killed 15 people yesterday, the third deadly attack in the region in as many days, and a US soldier was killed in a separate bombing in the same province, Iraqi officials and the US military said.

The blast in a shopping area in the village of Abu Sayda also left 21 wounded, Ghalib al-Karkhi, a police spokesman in Diyala Province, said. Diyala was once an insurgent stronghold, and the three consecutive days of violence there underscores the fragile nature of Iraq’s security as insurgents persist in trying to reignite sectarian bloodshed....

The US soldier, who was not identified pending notification of next of kin, was killed by a roadside bomb that struck his vehicle as he was traveling through Diyala, the US military said in a statement.

The car bombing was the third attack in and around about 35 miles north of Baghdad, since Monday. On Tuesday, a car bomb near a roadside restaurant north of killed one person. A day earlier, a car bomb exploded near a Baqubah restaurant, killing six people.

Must have been "Al-CIA-Duh," huh?
