Iranian Ships Sail Through the Suez

And Israel s*** her pants!

"Israel claims Iran warships Suez-bound" by Associated Press / February 17, 2011

JERUSALEM — Israel’s foreign minister claimed yesterday that Iran was about to send two warships through the Suez Canal for the first time in years, calling it a provocation, but he offered no evidence. The Egyptian authority that runs the canal denied it.

What would you call an attack on an aid ship full of humanitarian supplies?

Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman said the ships would cross later yesterday, en route to Syria. He offered no evidence and did not say how he knew it.

“This is a provocation that proves that Iranian audacity and insolence are increasing,’’ he said in a statement.

I'm sorry but my fellow Americans and I are not up for another war.

Do it yourself this time and leave the U.S. out, 'kay?

The Egyptian body that runs the Suez Canal denied the claim.

Ahmed el-Manakhli, head of the canal operations room, said warships must get permission 48 hours before crossing. “So far, we have not been notified,’’ he said.

Defense Minister Ehud Barak said Israel is monitoring the situation.

Oh that makes me feel all safe and snug.

Security officials said they have known of Iranian ship movements for some time and expect them to arrive at the canal today. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the issue.

Security officials from where?

In Washington, the Pentagon declined to comment. “It would be inappropriate to speculate about the future movements of another country’s ships,’’ said Marine Corps Major Chris Perrine, a Defense Department spokesman.

Since when?

Meanwhile, the US aircraft carrier USS Enterprise was transiting the Red Sea yesterday, after passing through the Suez Canal on its way to the Navy’s 5th Fleet area to support combat operations in Afghanistan and other duties in the region, two officials in Washington said.

Oh, so SENDING THROUGH OUR ATROCITY-CAUSING AIRCRAFT CARRIERS so they can rain down bombs and missiles on Afghanistan is NO BIG DEAL, huh?

And what OTHER DUTIES?

Israel considers Iran an existential threat because of its nuclear program, missile development, support for militants, and threats to destroy Israel.

Yeah, IF USRAEL ATTACKS THEM!!

Btw, wasn't that the SAME LINE being peddled about IRAQ around 8 years ago?

"Egypt OK's Suez passage of Iranian ships" by Associated Press  / February 19, 2011

CAIRO — Egypt has agreed to allow two Iranian naval vessels to transit the Suez Canal to the Mediterranean, a military official said yesterday, ending several days of confusion over their planned passage, which Israel’s foreign minister has labeled a provocation.

Exercising their legal right is a provocation?

An Iranian diplomat has said the vessels were heading to Syria for training and that the request to move through the canal is in line with international regulations.

It would be the first time since Iran’s clerical rulers came to power in the 1979 Islamic Revolution that naval vessels from the country have passed through the canal to the Mediterranean.

The movement of Iranian naval ships past Israeli shores is of concern there because Israel considers Iran an existential threat. Those fears stem from Iran’s threats to destroy Israel and from its disputed nuclear program, ballistic missile development, and support for militants in the region.

Anyone ever know a relative whom you are tired of listening to tune out?

The White House said the United States was also closely monitoring the progress of the ships, now in the Red Sea.

Oh, I feel even safer.

Their passage comes as the region is being swept by anti-government unrest, including the protests that toppled Egypt’s President Hosni Mubarak a week ago and left the military in charge of the country.

The vessels, a frigate and a supply ship, received the approval after routine procedures to check there was nothing illegal on board, said an Egyptian military official who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Not two warships?

"Iranian warships reach Mediterranean" by Associated Press / February 23, 2011

JERUSALEM — Two Iranian warships sailed from the Suez Canal into the Mediterranean yesterday, the first such trip in at least three decades, eliciting Israeli charges that Tehran is seeking to dominate the Middle East.

I didn't know a supply ship was a warship, but....

Btw, who has Iran invaded lately to try and dominate the region?

The vessels — a frigate and a supply ship — headed toward Syria but were expected to remain in international waters as they passed the Israeli coast.

The voyage took the ships close to NATO’s southern flank and could further destabilize the Middle East, a region already reeling from an unprecedented wave of antigovernment rebellions.

As if the oppressed masses in the street cared.  PFFFT!

In Tehran, the deputy commander of the Iranian navy said that Iran has “surprised the Zionist regime’’ with the journey to the Mediterranean....

Surprised me anyway.
