"State Police looking for motorcycle scofflaws" July 12, 2011|By John R. Ellement, Globe Staff

State Police are searching for a handful of motorcyclists following a confrontation on Interstate 91 in Longmeadow that ended with some of the bikers speeding away at 130 miles per hour.

On Sunday about 8 p.m., troopers saw about 10 motorcyclists riding four abreast - a traffic violation - on I-91 southbound near Exit 1, State Police said. A license plate - dealer plate MA DLN 8378A - on one of the vehicles was reported stolen, State Police said.

Troopers zoomed ahead of the motorcyclists and then tried to flag them down. Two of the bikers sped away. A third appeared to slow down, but then drove directly at Trooper Mark Weiner, striking his hand, before driving off toward Connecticut. Weiner was not seriously injured and continued to work the incident.

With traffic on the interstate stopped, Trooper Paul Kudryk, who was on the opposite side of the highway, tried to flag down another motorcyclist. The operator briefly complied, then drove at Kudryk’s cruiser, striking the open driver’s-side door, State Police said. He was not injured. That motorcyclist also sped off into Connecticut.
