Hot Time in Tokyo

"Radiation found in Tokyo region" October 14, 2011|Washington Post

SEOUL - Tokyo residents carrying radiation-monitoring equipment have found mini-hot spots in several areas across the city, prompting Japanese officials to promise more detailed government monitoring of radiation levels in the country’s most populous region.

This from a government that said nothing to worry about now and constantly lied about radiation levels.  It's basically an admission that they don't know a damn thing and have been lying all this time.

In areas more than 125 miles from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear facility that was heavily damaged by a March 11 earthquake and tsunami, residents reported yesterday that they had found two small areas with radiation higher than some levels within the 12-mile evacuation zone.

This as they tell people to return to their homes!

They have to apologize for telling the truth!

One of the two elevated readings, local officials said at a briefing, might be linked to radioactive materials stored in a nearby home.

?????????

Separately, a soil sample in Yokohama, just south of Tokyo, was found earlier this week to contain strontium-90, an isotope that can accumulate in bones and cause cancer. It was the first time that strontium, with a half-life of about 29 years, was detected farther than 60 miles from the plant. The strontium was found atop an apartment building in a measurement made by a private agency at a resident’s request.

But don't worry; when cancer cases start soaring in 20 years the government can say they haven't a clue and will say they must investigate.

Further testing, the officials cautioned, is needed to clarify where the radioactive isotopes came from and whether radiation has traveled farther from the plant than initially expected.

You mean than what we have been told by lying governments and their media mouthpieces.

Seven months after a triple meltdown at the nuclear plant, Japan is still trying to get a sense of the radioactive fallout.

Meaning everything the authorities have said up until now has been a lie.

I'm sure this will make the Japanese feel better:

"Japan reactor shut down after malfunction" October 05, 2011|New York Times

TOKYO - In a fresh blow to public confidence, a reactor in southern Japan went into automatic shutdown yesterday because of problems with its cooling system, clouding the outlook for an imminent restart of the country’s idled nuclear plants.

So the new PM is also a liar, huh?

Kyushu Electric, the operator of the reactor at the Genkai nuclear power plant, characterized the incident as minor and said there was no risk of a radiation leak....

And if you believe that I've got a nuclear plant to sell you.

Still, the shutdown came as the government was renewing a push to restart reactors that were idled after the nuclear accident at Fukushima in March. Kyushu Electric said that inspection work had been carried out on a valve of the condenser in question yesterday, raising the possibility that human error had triggered the shutdown....

Yeah, go and flick the switch (sigh).

After yesterday’s shutdown, only 10 of 54 reactors remain on the grid, threatening to deprive the nation of the source of almost a third of its electricity. At least four of six reactors at the Fukushima plant, which suffered meltdowns earlier this year, are expected to be permanently decommissioned.

It's turned into a "teachable" moment:

"Atomic energy specialists visit Japan" October 10, 2011|By Associated Press

TOKYO - Specialists from the International Atomic Energy Agency arrived in Fukushima yesterday to observe the massive decontamination effort at the site of the world’s worst nuclear disaster since Chernobyl.

Local doctors also began a long-term survey of children for thyroid abnormalities, a problem associated with radiation exposure. Officials hope to test some 360,000 people who were under the age of 18 when the nuclear crisis began in March and then provide follow-ups throughout their lifetimes.

The 12-member IAEA group was to visit farms, schools, and government offices throughout Fukushima prefecture in northeastern Japan to observe the cleanup process. It is the UN atomic agency’s second major mission to Japan since the crisis at Fukushima’s Daiichi nuclear power plant began.

They HAVEN'T EVEN GOT them COOLED DOWN YET!!!!!!

Nearly 20,000 people were killed when the earthquake and tsunami hit Japan on March 11, and the disaster severely damaged the Fukushima complex. Officials say the plant is now relatively stable, but tens of thousands of people still cannot - or choose not to - return to their homes because of the radioactive contamination.

What does RELATIVELY STABLE mean? Only a LITTLE RADIATION still leaking into the cooling water being poured on the reactors?

And why don't you MSM pukes go build some condos in the area and settle down? Or do you CHOOSE NOT TO, you insulting bastards!??

Concerns remain high over how the lingering contamination will affect children.

Maybe they should be calling it a CLEAN OUT not a clean up:

"Japan set to spend billions on air force" by Associated Press October 17, 2011

HYAKURI AIR BASE, Japan - Warplanes bearing the bright red Rising Sun logo roared overhead yesterday as Japan held a once-every-three-years display to showcase one of the best air forces in Asia. The only problem - most of its fighters were grounded.

Underscoring Japan’s uphill battle in an increasingly heated race to control the skies over Asia, the air review came just a week after the country’s entire F-15 fleet was ordered into its hangers for safety checks following a midair accident, the second such order in three months.

Yeah, I heard there are all sorts of problems with AmeriKan pieces of junk these days.

But in an effort to counterbalance big strides by China and Russia toward deploying new stealthy aircraft, Japan’s Air Self-Defense Forces are about to get a multibillion dollar overhaul....

How about USING THAT MONEY to CLEAN the ENVIRONMENT INSTEAD!???

After years of delays and budget battles, Japan is expected to announce by the end of December a new fighter deal that will likely shape Asian air security for decades to come.

Yeah, never mind the radiation poisoning the place.
