Russia Sees Syria Right

"Russia said violations of the cease-fire were still being committed by both sides, but blamed the opposition overall.

“Most often this occurs because of provocative actions from the armed opposition, which often force the Syrian security forces to open fire in response,’’ Russia’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said. Still, he added, the level of violence in the country has declined considerably since the observers arrived.

"Syrian gunmen targeting military officers loyal to Assad; Attacks have left at least 10 dead in past 3 months" by Bassem Mroue  |  Associated Press, April 25, 2012

BEIRUT — President Bashar Assad’s opponents in Syria appear to be resorting increasingly to assassinations of loyalist military officers in an escalation of their campaign to bring down the regime. At least 10 senior officers, including several generals, have been gunned down in the past three months, many of them as they left their homes in the morning to head to their posts....

Their pace appears to have accelerated even more sharply since a cease-fire plan brokered by United Nations and Arab League envoy Kofi Annan went into effect April 12....

It is unclear whether the recent slayings are being carried out by rogue elements in the opposition seeking revenge or whether they represent a coordinated strategy by rebels to destabilize the regime....

It's only unclear according to the media mouthpiece. Any astute reader and observer knows it's a coordinated campaign in an attempt at a coup.

There is also a sectarian tone to the killings....

Oh, I'm sorry, I simply no longer buy into that particular piece of Zionist propaganda (cui bono?).

Maybe it is God's honest truth; however, he picked the wrong mouthpiece messenger to deliver it.

Mohamad Bazzi, a Syria expert at the Council on Foreign Relations, said....

I'm sorry, readers; I've about stopped obsessing when it comes to the Globe and Syria.

Next Day Update:

"Suicide bomber kills 10 in Damascus amid cease-fire; UN says it will hasten arrival of monitors" by Karin Laub  |  Associated Press, April 28, 2012

BEIRUT - Two weeks into a cease-fire agreement, there still was no peace Friday in Syria: Security agents in Damascus collected the remains of 10 people killed in a suicide bombing. Activists reported troops firing on protesters. Video showed a crowd carrying a slain boy to UN observers as proof of regime violence.

The head of the United Nations said President Bashar Assad’s continued crackdown on protests has reached an “intolerable stage.’’

“The government of Syria must live up to its promises to the world,’’ UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said Friday.

Tens of thousands of people poured into the streets across Syria for weekly antiregime marches after Muslim noon prayers Friday. Amateur video from the central city of Homs, where the presence of UN observers helped halt weeks of artillery attacks, showed rows of men lining up in a main street, holding each other by the shoulders as they sang and danced.

In another protest, people held up 45 squares of cardboard with writing and drawings that - when viewed together from above - showed a picture of Assad and the words “oppression, corruption, despotism, demolition.’’ When they simultaneously flipped over the squares, it created a new message that read: “Toward a modern society that is more developed and sensible.’’

Obviously all coordinated and orchestrated by foreign intelligence.

With the United States and France in the lead, Western powers have threatened tougher UN Security Council measures if Assad keeps breaking his promises, although Syria’s allies Russia and China could use their veto powers in the council to shield him.

British Foreign Office Minister Alistair Burt said his government will seek “robust action’’ in the council if Syria doesn’t comply with special envoy Kofi Annan’s plan....

In recent months, there has been a string of bombings in Damascus and elsewhere. The regime blamed Friday’s attack on unspecified “terrorists’’ - the term it uses to describe opposition forces that it says are carrying out a foreign conspiracy. Opposition activists deny any role, saying such blasts are carried out by government forces and meant to tarnish Assad’s opponents.

The agents of opposition hollering inside job? Will wonders never cease.

Some US officials suggested after previous bombings that Al Qaeda militants may be joining the fray.

Yes, we all know "Al-CIA-Duh" is involved.

The bombings posed the latest challenge to attempts to end the Syria crisis; the uprising began with largely peaceful protests but has turned into an armed insurgency in response to a relentless regime crackdown.

Ban said he was “gravely alarmed’’ by the continued killings....
