Pakistan Post in a New Format

Seeing as they are officially an enemy now I hope you enjoy the new yet similar style and exciting yet still familiar format.

"A US drone strike killed three suspected militants in Pakistan’s tribal belt on Sunday, an official said, in the first attack since the country’s Parliament demanded an end to such strikes more than two weeks ago."

"A US drone struck militant hide-outs in northwestern Pakistan for the second consecutive day Thursday, despite calls by the Pakistani government to halt the covert CIA campaign. Estimates varied on the number of fatalities. Seven to 10 people suspected of being militants were believed to have died, government officials and locals said."

"An American drone fired two missiles at a bakery in northwest Pakistan on Saturday, killing four suspected militants, officials said, as the United States pushed ahead with its drone campaign despite Pakistani demands to stop. This was the third such strike in less than a week (AP)."

"Two suspected US missile strikes pounded militant hide-outs in a tribal region close to the Afghan border, killing nine alleged insurgents, officials said. There have been five such attacks over the last  week. Also Monday...."

"An American drone strike in the frontier tribal areas of Pakistan killed 10 suspected militants Sunday, Pakistani officials said. It was sixth such strike in two weeks as the United States pushes ahead with its drone campaign in the face of Pakistani demands to stop."

"The third strike in three days killed at least 14 people. The pace of the campaign is partly dictated by Obama, who approves every name added to the “kill list’’ of drone targets and can veto strikes in which civilians may be killed....

Then I do in fact hold him responsible for the deaths of innocents and see him as just another war criminal president in a long line of war criminal presidents.  He's no JFK or otherwise he'd stop this madness.

Reports of Monday’s airstrike came during a continued scramble to reach agreement over NATO supply lines into Afghanistan, which have been closed since November, after US airstrikes killed 24 Pakistani soldiers. NATO said Monday that it had reached agreement with three central Asian countries to completely bypass Pakistan."

Who gives a damn about the supply lines for the empire?

"Leon Panetta speech increases pressure on Pakistan; Defense secretary says US ally must deal with terrorists" by Deb Riechmann and Heidi Vogt  |  Associated Press, June 08, 2012

KABUL -  Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said “we are reaching the limits of our patience.’’

We all know what that means!!

*************

It was the latest sign that the United States is getting tougher with Pakistan after years of muting criticism and looking the other way on the premise that an uneasy friendship was better than making the nuclear-armed country an outright enemy....

Panetta, in the Afghan capital, told reporters he was visiting Kabul to take stock of progress in the war, saying the Pakistani government needs to do more - and soon - to root out the Al Qaeda-linked Haqqani terrorist network.

It's just not funny anymore.

Panetta repeatedly emphasized US frustration....

He added that the United States is “extraordinarily dissatisfied with the effect that Pakistan has had on the Haqqanis,’’ but also mindful that Pakistan has taken on other insurgent groups at great cost to their own troops....

Panetta’s remarks capped a week of some of the boldest language and actions by the administration against its stated ally.

Just a day before, he stood in the capital of Pakistan’s arch rival, India, and declared that drone strikes against terror suspects would continue, dismissing Pakistan’s assertions of sovereignty by noting that US sovereignty was jeopardized by terrorists as well.

Yeah, and what is even worse than the insulting arrogance over a lie is they were LAUGHING about it!!

F***ing LAUGHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A senior US official acknowledged Thursday that the recent increase in drone strikes on insurgents in Pakistan - targeting mostly Al Qaeda but other militants as well - is partly a result of frustration with Islamabad. The official spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive operations.

Isn't that a WAR CRIME?

Isn't that TERRORISM? Trying to get a government to change its policy with violence?

Yeah, don't "frustrate" the AmeriKan government or will dump some drone missiles all over your country!

And earlier this week, NATO sealed agreements to ship tons of supplies out of Afghanistan through northern and western countries, bypassing Pakistan, which has kept its borders closed to NATO trucks in response to the killing of 24 Pakistani troops by NATO forces.

I'm proud of the Pakistanis for sticking with that position in the face of so much pressure.

That's that the empire is truly concerned about: supply lines. Still gonna need 'em after 2014.

Perhaps most pointedly, President Asif Ali Zardari of Pakistan was not invited until the last minute to the NATO summit that President Obama hosted in Chicago last month, and did not get the private meeting with the US leader that he wanted.

Obama also publicly thanked Central Asian nations and Russia for recent help in war supply. He did not mention Pakistan’s years of help doing the same thing before the gates were closed last fall.

Yeah, yeah, they got a snub. I'm sure the Pakistanis are crying in their beer over that one.

The United States has given Pakistan billions of dollars in aid to support both its government and the fight against Islamist militants....

Implication being the ungrateful bastards took our tax money, blah, blah, blah, blah.

"[As I have been saying repeatedly over the past several years, the former allies are headed for a major confrontation.  That confrontation will take the form of an intensive air campaign, in support of the world's first Special Forces War.  The infiltration of the Pak military is by now nearly complete, providing Washington an intimate, insider's knowledge of all the ins and outs, as well as institutional weaknesses, of those forces.  When the time comes, a rapid succession of selective airstrikes will effectively create blindness and chaos, even at the upper echelons of power, before the generals can even know whether they are being hit by Indian forces or American.

This is the plan, at least.  Plans like this don't normally work-out the way they were hatched.

If relations between the US and Pakistan continue on their downward spiral, then this is where it will all lead, because the Empire's plans require the acquiescence of Pakistan's government and the use of Pakistani territory.  Pakistan must produce real leaders who can lead the country away from this storm in a careful, measured manner.  Pakistan must disengage from America in an amicable way, while it still can.] -- U.S., Pakistan On A Countdown To Conflict

I think they got the message:

“This is signaling to India that if you are modernizing your weaponry, then we are also not lagging behind. Pakistan is sensitive and responsive to evolving threats,’’ said Mansoor Ahmed, a defense analyst based in Islamabad."

"Hostage makes video appeal to Obama" May 08, 2012|Associated Press

ISLAMABAD - A 70-year-old American kidnapped nine months ago in Pakistan said in a video released by Al Qaeda that he will be killed unless President Obama agrees to the militant group’s demands. The White House called for his immediate release.

The video posted on militant websites Sunday followed one issued in December in which Al Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahri said Warren Weinstein would be released if the United States stopped airstrikes in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Somalia, and Yemen. He also demanded the release of all Al Qaeda and Taliban suspects around the world.

Oh, another CIA-Duh crapper, HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA!!!

This one TRULY IS FUNNY!!

“My life is in your hands, Mr. President,’’ Weinstein said in the new video. “If you accept the demands, I live; if you don’t accept the demands, then I die.’’

Is that the same list that....

I wonder how good is the hotel room outside Langley.

It was unclear when the video was recorded.

Obama spokesman Jay Carney insisted the United States will not negotiate with Al Qaeda. “We condemn his kidnapping in the strongest terms and call for [Weinstein’s] immediate release,’’ he said.

Well, we would ONLY BE NEGOTIATING WITH OURSELVES!

Weinstein was abducted in August in Lahore after gunmen tricked his guards and broke into his home. He was the country director in Pakistan for J.E. Austin Associates, a US-based firm that advises a range of Pakistani business and government sectors.

They can't come up with a better cover story than that?

"Gunmen open fire at rally in Pakistan, 9 killed" Associated Press, May 23, 2012

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan - Gunmen opened fire on a political rally in the Pakistani city of Karachi on Tuesday, killing at least nine people and sparking rioting, police said.

The violence was a reminder of the port city’s volatility. It is home to several political parties with armed wings that extort its citizens and feud among themselves, leading to frequent outbreaks of violence....

Karachi is home to 18 million people and is the commercial hub of Pakistan.

But it is divided by ethnic, political, and sectarian tensions, and is also believed to be a hiding place for Taliban and Al Qaeda militants.

The latest violence there started hours after the Pakistani Navy said it had court-martialed three officers for “negligence’’ in connection with a dramatic Taliban attack on a naval base in the southern port city of Karachi last year.

The brazen 18-hour assault on Naval Station Mehran last May destroyed two US-supplied surveillance aircraft and killed 10 people on the base.

The ability of the militants to penetrate the high-security base led to speculation they may have had inside information or assistance.

I find it offensive when the cover-up corporate press hollers inside job.

Of course, it's a confirmation of sorts that it is not.

So what is the Pakistani political scene like these days?

"Pakistan court convicts prime minister of contempt; But releases him, moving dispute to political arena" by Declan Walsh  |  New York Times, April 27, 2012

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan - Pakistan’s top court convicted Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani of contempt Thursday, imposing a token sentence that deflated some of the political pressure around the case but could still result in Gilani’s ouster.

Facing a courtroom packed with lawyers, Cabinet ministers, and journalists, Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk issued a strongly worded verdict that found Gilani guilty of disobedience toward the Supreme Court and bringing ridicule on its judges.

But instead of jailing the prime minister for six months, as the law provides, the judge imprisoned him only until the court adjourned - an event that occurred seconds later, when Gilani, by then smiling toward his supporters, was still seated.

The courtroom drama brought an immediate sense of relief that a feared institutional clash had at least temporarily abated. But it also signaled that the drama was moving from the judicial to the political arena....

Amid the immediate fallout from the verdict, there was little discussion of the Swiss corruption case at the heart of the matter. President Asif Ali Zardari stands accused of taking $12 million in kickbacks from a customs contract awarded to a Swiss company when his wife, Benazir Bhutto, was prime minister in the mid-1990s.

Swiss authorities charged him with money laundering, but the case dragged on for years, only to collapse in 2007 after military leader Pervez Musharraf arranged for the charges to be dropped as part of a political deal with Zardari’s wife.

Two years later, in 2009, the Supreme Court declared that deal, known as the National Reconciliation Order, illegal. Since then it has pressed the government to write to the Swiss authorities in order to revive the case.

Swiss lawyers say that even if the letter were written, it is highly unlikely the corruption case could be restarted, because of Zardari’s presidential immunity and a 15-year statute of limitations, which expires this year.

"Four men acquitted in NYC bomb case" June 03, 2012

ISLAMABAD - A Pakistani antiterrorism court Saturday acquitted four men who had been charged with helping a Pakistani-American man carry out a failed attempt to detonate a truck bomb in Times Square, said their lawyer and family members. The four were arrested after Faisal Shahzad’s May 2010 attack, which fizzled when the explosives in his vehicle produced smoke but no blast. Shahzad has pleaded guilty and admitted to getting training from the Pakistani Taliban. He was sentenced to life in prison in the United States (AP)."

Yeah, Pakistan definitely an enemy now. They are letting "terrorists" go free.
