Globe Gunning For Elizabeth Warren

Got her in their sights!

"Brown opposes, Warren supports renewing assault weapons ban" by Noah Bierman  |  Globe staff, July 27, 2012

The deadly shooting in Colorado has thrust the debate about gun control into the Massachusetts Senate race between Senator Scott Brown and Elizabeth Warren, exposing areas of deep division and some surprising agreement between the Republican and Democratic candidates.

Not that it is not an important issue; however, the elections need to be decided over anything but war policy and Wall Street looting -- which is were Warren is strong.

And then we get the Sikh shooting?

Warren’s positions are largely in line with those of gun-control advocates, while Brown had long been endorsed by gun rights groups until he recently broke rank on a high-profile issue.

See: Leave weapons bans to states, Scott Brown says

The candidates are most sharply divided about whether to renew the federal assault weapons ban, with Warren supporting an extension of the ban that expired in 2004 and Brown saying it is an issue best left to the states.

Gun control advocates have seized on the Colorado shooting to make their case for renewal of the law that bans 19 types of semiautomatic guns, in part because accused gunman James Holmes allegedly used a semiautomatic weapon known as the AR-15 in the movie theater shooting that killed 12 people and wounded 58 more. Holmes purchased the gun legally, but it would have been banned under the expired assault weapons law

There you go, reason for the false flag operation.

But gun rights proponents argue that tight controls prohibit would-be victims from defending themselves from attackers, who will acquire guns whether they are legal or not....

I know it is painful; however, on this issue the gun advocates are correct.

Brownie picked up an endorsement from Bloomie:

"Bloomberg backs Brown in Mass. Senate race; Incumbent’s NRA split brings boost" by Michael Levenson  |  Globe Staff, July 27, 2012

Michael R. Bloomberg, the billionaire mayor of New York, waded into one of the nation’s fiercest Senate races and threw his financial and rhetorical support behind Senator Scott Brown on Thursday, praising Brown’s defiance of the National Rifle Association on its top legislative priority.

Stay out of my state's politics, yer honor.

The “biggest reason” the mayor decided to support Brown was the senator’s opposition to the National Right-To-Carry Reciprocity Act, which would allow gun owners to carry concealed weapons across state lines, said Stu Loeser, a Bloomberg spokesman.

Bloomberg, who cofounded a group called Mayors Against Illegal Guns with Mayor Thomas M. Menino of Boston, has made gun control one of his top issues.

The New York mayor, who will hold an August fund-raiser for Brown at his Upper East Side townhouse, could help the senator tap wealthy New York donors and build his case that he is an independent voice willing to buck party orthodoxy.

Bloomberg is an independent who was previously a member of both major parties.

He is perhaps the nation’s most prominent advocate for a brand of centrist politics that mixes support for business with liberal social views and tough regulation of some industries.

At the same time, the endorsement could make it more difficult for Brown, a Massachusetts Republican who prides himself on his humble, homegrown image, to criticize his Democratic challenger, Elizabeth Warren, for raising money out of state.

Whether voters will care is another question; political scientists often dismiss the importance of endorsements, saying they can burnish a candidate’s imagine, but do little to sway votes.

Nevertheless, Warren, who accepted the endorsement of the Massachusetts Credit Union League on Thursday, pounced on Bloomberg’s backing as evidence that Brown champions the interests of major financial institutions.

“Today, Scott Brown stands with Wall Street, and I stand with every credit union in the Commonwealth,” she said at her campaign headquarters in Somerville.

A vocal defender of Wall Street, Bloomberg may chafe at Warren’s persistent criticism of the financial sector and big banks....

On gun issues, Bloomberg may be more closely aligned with Warren....

And yet he endorsed Brownie.

Yes, there are other issues more important than guns.

"Brown’s turbulent childhood, which he recalled in an interview with the Globe and laid out in vivid detail in his popular memoir, “Against All Odds,” is a story of Dickensian dimensions — of a boy, lonely and largely left to raise himself. In the tight race for his Senate seat, a contest in which personal biography has come to occupy center stage, Brown’s narrative of his youth has become the subject of fascination....

Yes, it is a campaign about nothing.

Globe is doing all it can to make Bush, 'er, Brownie look good.

"Senator Scott Brown has taken a lot of guff during his reelection campaign for boasts about his secret meetings with kings and queens and frequent calls from Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, both of which turned out to be exaggerations of the truth.

A polite way of saying he lied.

But the Republican has no corner on the braggadocio market, as his Democratic rival showed again this past week.

Harvard Law School professor Elizabeth Warren, a proud champion of the middle class, nonetheless claimed support from the very same Wall Street crowd she so frequently targets for criticism.

“Every now and again, I meet with someone who’s been very successful on Wall Street, who says, ‘I want to support your campaign because I believe you will save capitalism,’” Warren said during an interview with the National Journal’s Jim O’Sullivan published July 29.

By Monday, the comment was pinging around the Internet and Twittersphere, accompanied by a fairly snarky reaction. That prompted Warren to backpedal Tuesday as she made a campaign stop in Somerville.

“I passed along a comment that was over the top, and it was silly for me to do so,” she told reporters. Warren repeated the statement to each question on the topic.

Brown’s staff pounced, linking the comment to another boast last fall, when Warren said that “I created much of the intellectual foundation” for the Occupy Wall Street movement.

Related: Why Brown Will Beat Warren

“Even Professor Warren recognizes how silly it is for the intellectual founder of the Occupy protest movement to suggest that she is going to save our free enterprise system,” said Brown spokesman Colin Reed.

Why?

The implication is that Occupy was a bunch of socialists and communists (wrong), and that they don't believe in markets (wrong). I mean, Ralph Nader believed in the legal system and markets.

And if Warren could have her way we would at least have a better chance against the predatory looters known as banks -- the very entities that are destroying our free enterprise system.

If only there were another national economic and industrial policy AmeriKa could adopt instead of rampant militarism:

"“China invests 9 percent of its GDP in infrastructure,” Warren says in the ad. “America? We’re at just 2.4 percent. We can do better.”

The “Rebuild Now” plan will not add to the debt, she says.....

The Brown campaign has pounced on Warren’s focus on China by e-mailing articles from conservatives who have criticized the ad. “Negative reviews continue to roll in on Elizabeth Warren’s ‘be more like communist China!’ campaign ad,” the Brown campaign wrote in one e-mail.

You know, I WISH MY GOVERNMENT had GUARDED OUR JOBS and INDUSTRIAL POLICY as well as the Chinese -- instead of offering tax cuts and tax credit checks to corporations to move the jobs overseas.

Yeah, I know they are poor-paying sweatshop jobs, but that is another matter.

Warren said the comparison to China is valid.

“China is a warning,” she said. “If China is making investments in state-of-the-art infrastructure while the US lets roads and bridges crumble, lets water and sewer systems collapse, then our businesses can’t compete.”

Because our tax loot has to go to Israel, wars, and Wall Street.

"Brown, Warren split on environmental policies" by David Abel  |  Globe Staff, August 03, 2012

Senator Scott Brown received about $280,000 from coal, oil, and gas interests — compared with Elizabeth Warren’s collection of about about $11,000 from oil and gas....

Another Warren advantage when it comes to my vote.

Brown pointed to clear differences between him and Warren on environmental issues. He noted he strongly supports nuclear power and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s recent extension of Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station’s operating license; wants to see more hydraulic fracking, a controversial and increasingly common method of obtaining natural gas; and favors extending the Keystone Pipeline from Canada to deliver crude oil extracted from tar sands to the Midwest, a project that has raised concerns about the potential for increasing air pollution and contaminating water supplies....

He's 0 for 3.

And Obama has approved Keystone; they are just rerouting it.

Unlike Brown, Warren said she has taken a clear position about the need to reduce greenhouse gases as soon as possible, which she notes have spiked to potentially dangerous amounts in the atmosphere and are believed by scientists to be contributing to rising sea levels and sweltering temperatures, as well as everything from increased acidification of the seas to extinctions of wildlife.

“I believe in science,” Warren said. “The data are overwhelming about climate change, and it is imperative that we take action.”

That is not helping her with me.

Oh, right, she did go there.

As a senator, she would try to eliminate more than $20 billion in subsidies for oil companies, invest more heavily in renewable energy and research, and seek a consensus about the best method of lowering emissions, she said....

The billions-per-quarter-in-profit oil companies?

“Scott Brown has been skeptical of climate change, without offering any scientific basis for his claims,” Warren said. “Anyone who does not believe in science should not be making environmental policy.”

Except the scientists lied, Liz.

When asked whether he thinks human activity has contributed to climate change, a view endorsed by major scientific bodies around the world such as the US National Academy of Sciences, Brown said he does, a more emphatic answer than he gave while campaigning two years ago, when he expressed uncertainty about the science.

“I do believe man plays a role,” he said. “That being said....”

Yup, they all have to worship at the altars of certain dogmatic orthodoxies.

For her part, Warren supports building Cape Wind, opposes extending the Keystone Pipeline, wants more regulations to monitor fracking, and says she would have supported extending the Pilgrim nuclear plant’s operating license only if the NRC ensured it met strict safety standards first, which she argues the agency failed to do.

And f*** fracking -- unless you want to be able to burn the stink water.

The candidates do agree on several issues.

They both want to see less consolidation in the state’s fishing industry, where 20 percent of the boats received nearly 80 percent of the groundfish revenue in 2010.

They also both oppose efforts by Republicans in the House to roll back the Endangered Species Act.
