Summer Camp Kiss

Aaaah, the wonderful, life-searing memories of being bullied.

"Suit says kiss got girl tossed from camp" Associated Press, July 30, 2013

WESTPORT, Conn. — The parents of a 15-year-old girl from Connecticut sued a summer camp in Massachusetts Monday, saying their daughter was kicked out of camp last month after a boy kissed her.

The girl was sent home from Camp Emerson in Hinsdale, and a camp official falsely accused her and the boy of sexually provocative behavior, says the lawsuit filed in Bridgeport Superior Court.

The lawsuit also said the girl suffers from emotional and psychological disorders including obsessive compulsive disorder....

The lawsuit seeks more than $600,000 in damages....

The relationship between the girl and boy ‘‘became the summer romance that most teens yearn for,’’ the lawsuit said....

Well, yeah, maybe, but does that mean they should have it?

A camp handbook does not prohibit kissing, and male counselors had encouraged the boy to kiss the girl, according to the lawsuit.

Uh-oh.

The girl, who lives in Westport, was escorted from the camp by a uniformed police officer and was barred from saying goodbye to her friends and counselors, according to the lawsuit.

The family spent $6,450 for the four-week session at the camp, which was not refunded, said Rosemarie Arnold, attorney for the family.

I remember being touched by the counselor, but didn't think there was anything wrong with it at the time. Just camp.

Who can I $ue?

NEXT DAY UPDATE:

"Conn. lawsuit over summer camp kiss withdrawn

Court records indicate the parents of a 15-year-old Connecticut girl have withdrawn their lawsuit that said their daughter was kicked out of summer camp after a boy kissed her. The lawsuit, filed Monday in Bridgeport Superior Court, said the girl was sent home last month from Camp Emerson in Hinsdale, Mass. It also said a camp official falsely accused her and the boy of sexually provocative behavior. Neither the girl nor her parents were named in the suit. Rosemarie Arnold, attorney for the girl’s family, would not confirm that the lawsuit was withdrawn. The lawsuit cited negligent infliction of emotional distress, defamation, and other claims."

You must remember this, a kiss is just a kiss, a sigh is just.... me reading the Globe.

"Girl dies after eating snack made of peanuts" Associated Press, July 31, 2013

SACRAMENTO — A 13-year-old girl with a peanut allergy died at a popular family summer camp after taking a bite of a Rice Krispies treat.

Natalie Giorgi died Saturday at Camp Sacramento after eating the snack, which had peanuts, even after her parents administered multiple doses of medicine, the Sacramento Bee reported.

A family friend told the Bee that Giorgi was diligent about her allergy, and spit out the treat right away after tasting peanuts. ‘‘She never put any dessert or anything that was questionable into her mouth without consulting someone,’’ said Augusta Brothers, the family friend.

Giorgi found her mother, who gave her a dose of Benadryl and monitored her. For a short time the girl seemed fine, but 20 minutes later she had trouble breathing.

Her father, a doctor, administered an EpiPen, which contains epinephrine, three times before she stopped breathing.

The sheriff’s office cited laryngeal edema, or a swelling in the throat, as the cause of death.

Giorgi’s parents, Louis and Joanna Giorgi, hoped their daughter’s death would focus attention on the dangers of food allergies.

Most result from exposure to eight kinds of foods: eggs, milk, peanuts, tree nuts, soy, wheat, shellfish, and fish.

Interesting. Those two items are used as adjuvants in vaccines, and some have linked them to increases in allergic reactions with kids.

Of course, my new$paper doesn't, and says anyone who suggests such a thing is crazy!
