"Conn. steps up road-safety enforcement
Connecticut State Police started a holiday traffic-enforcement program that will include sobriety checkpoints. Dubbed Operation SANTA, or Stop Another Needless Tragic Accident, the program focuses on the driving behaviors that most frequently cause accidents, including driving under the influence, speeding, and failing to wear seat belts, according to authorities. State troopers will step up DUI enforcement through the new year. Sobriety checkpoints are scheduled on roads and highways across Connecticut until Jan. 4, according to State Police. Police said troopers will also look for distracted drivers and cellphone users as part of Operation SANTA. Police are encouraging those who plan to consume alcohol to make plans in advance for a designated driver to bring them home."
While opposed to drunk driving, I'm also opposed to unconstitutional (I don't care what the corporate Supreme Court says) checkpoints -- a sure sign of a police state.
