Slow Saturday Special: Plymouth Cops Purging Homeless

"Man shot by Plymouth police officer" by Catalina Gaitan | Globe correspondent   April 11, 2014

Plymouth police shot a man Thursday night after he allegedly lunged at an officer with a knife, officials said.

This is the standard fall-back excuse for opening fire now, and I no longer believe authority.

The 50-year-old homeless man, whose name has not been released, was taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Plymouth, said Plymouth Police Chief Michael Botieri. The man’s injuries were not considered life-threatening. The man was later taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.

He faces a charge of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

Botieri said officers were dispatched to the downtown area about 5:45 p.m. to investigate reports that a person was making suicidal threats. When officers found the man, he was carrying a knife and making suicidal statements, Botieri said.

Looks like the police did their best to accommodate him.

As police drew closer, he allegedly lunged at an officer with the knife and the officer “fired one round, striking [him] in the torso,” Botieri said.
