Ribeiro’s Rage

"A Fairhaven man was arrested on multiple charges Sunday night after a three-hour standoff with police, officials said. Richard Ribeiro, 40, was charged with vandalizing property, attempted arson of a dwelling, disorderly conduct, and disturbing the peace, said Fairhaven Police Sergeant Kevin Kobza. An upstairs neighbor called 911 around 8:30 p.m. and reported Ribeiro was “smashing up his apartment” at the multi-unit building on Main Street, Kobza said. When officers arrived, Ribeiro yelled at them and said he would not be taken alive, Kobza said. Officers set up a perimeter, called for a SWAT team, and waited outside. Ribeiro threw objects through the window, but no one was injured. Three hours later, Ribeiro climbed out of a first-floor window. Police Tasered him, and he was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford for a psychiatric evaluation."
