"7 ex-nurses indicted after broken finger leads to amputation" AP  May 20, 2015

VINELAND, N.J. — Seven former nurses have been charged with criminal neglect in the case of a woman, Wendy Hart, who needed her hand amputated after a broken finger was not treated properly, officials said Tuesday.

Joe Waite, associate director of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Local 2215, said the length of time between the amputation and indictments reflects a broken system.

‘‘It’s terrible, I understand, and am very sympathetic to the patients,’’ Waite said. ‘‘But for criminal charges to be brought three years after the fact and not even have a hearing? There is no fairness.’’

"British nurse convicted of killing 2 patients with insulin" Associated Press  May 19, 2015

LONDON — A medical mystery that began four years ago with unexplained deaths in a British hospital ended Monday when a nurse was convicted of using insulin to murder two patients.

The 49-year-old nurse was also convicted of trying to poison 20 other patients during what police called a reign of terror at Stepping Hill Hospital in Stockport, 200 miles northwest of London.

In a note found by police, Victorino Chua described himself as “an angel turned into an evil person.”

The father of two wrote “there’s a devil in me.”
