Oregon's New Gas Tax

Just wait until you get the excise bill....

"Oregon is about to test a first-in-the-nation program to tax drivers not on fuel used, but miles driven. The goal is more revenue to pay for road and bridge projects as gasoline tax revenues decline across the country. On July 1, up to 5,000 volunteers can sign up to use devices that collect mileage data and pay 1.5 cents per mile traveled, instead of the regular gas-pump tax. Some electric and hybrid car owners say such a new tax would discriminate against them; state officials say it’s only fair that owners of green vehicles be charged for maintaining roads. California is studying alternatives to the gas tax, Washington state has set money aside to develop a program similar to Oregon’s, and an Indiana bill calls for a study of gas tax alternatives."

Thieving state governments all across the land. You do the right thing and they still $crew you.

So who stole all your highway money, Oregon?
